Resident Stories

Here are just a few stories from our lovely residents as they tell us about their experience here.

Jean’s story

Jean moved to Montrosa in November 2024. A resident of Scarborough since 1961 Jean and her husband Claude ran an antiques shop in the town. Both were active members of the community, especially the town’s parish church of St Mary’s.  Jean was responsible for some of the needlework in the church whilst Claude was the organist and choir master.

At the grand old age of 100 Jean decided it was time to receive a little TLC. Jean knew of Montrosa, indeed had friends who lived here.

“I have never looked back! Living in Montrosa is better than I could have expected. The staff are wonderful and the food delicious. The care and love is wonderful.  I feel part of the Montrosa family and couldn’t ask for anything more. Most recently, Richard has allowed us to choose our own new curtains making my room even more homely.

I love living here.”

Maureen’s story

“My husband Michael and I lived in a bungalow and were happy there. We shared many interests including the great outdoors, walking, natural history and gardening.

By chance, I met a lady who mentioned Montrosa required a gardener and would Michael be interested. He absolutely was and devoted 30 years to the Montrosa garden receiving many gardening awards.  At the age of 81, Michael retired. Shortly afterwards he became ill and required 24-hour support. What finer place than Montrosa, I suggested.

Visiting Montrosa regularly with our energetic dog, Tigga, I realised Michael was in excellent hands until his final resting place at the Hospice.

In January 2020, having lost Michael and Tigga, I entered Montrosa for a few weeks respite care.  Lockdown prevented my return home so I sold my bungalow and remained at Montrosa. Here I am nearly three years later.

With a cosy room, amazing staff, wonderful food, and glorious coastal scenery what more do I need? Why not pack your case and join us… now?”
